Curated by Ekow Eshun, In the Black Fantastic featured work by 11 contemporary artists from the African diaspora, including Nick Cave, who draw on science fiction, myth and Afrofuturism to question our knowledge of the world. As part of Nick’s presentation of work as well as to set the tone for the exhibition’s opening gallery, this Wallwork uses myriad source images from Nick’s artworks along with real bird photos to create a kinetic-feeling mural of possibility, wonder and vision of the future.
